John Taddie, Ph.D. is Director of our Los Angeles and Orange County DNA testing center. Dr. Taddie has over 13 years of experience in DNA testing for paternity, family relationships, and human identification. Prior to joining DNA Services of America, Dr. Taddie was Director of Long Beach Genetics, a locally renowned DNA testing laboratory that performed paternity testing for most of the government child support agencies in California as well as the private legal community of Greater Los Angeles. (Due to a corporate acquisition, Long Beach Genetics ceased operations in 2005). Since joining Long Beach Genetics in1997, Dr. Taddie has supervised over 150,000 DNA paternity and family relationship tests, has reviewed over 45,000 individual DNA test cases, and has testified as a DNA expert in over 50 California civil and criminal court trials involving cases of child support, custody, probate, welfare fraud, immigration, sexual assault, incest, and homicide.
Dr. Taddie is a current member of AABB and a former appointed member of the AABB Relationship Testing Standards Program Unit, the team of experts that establishes AABB’s internationally accepted Standards for Relationship Testing Laboratories. In this capacity, he was a contributing writer to the 6th and 7th Editions of the AABB's Standards for paentage/Relationship Testing Laboratories. Dr. Taddie received his B.S. in Microbiology from Penn State University in 1986, obtained his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Cornell University in 1992, and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Salk Institute in 1995.
Dr. Taddie presents frequent lectures on DNA testing to legal groups, medical associations, and government agencies throughout Southern California. He has been a guest lecturer for USC School of Medicine, UC Irvine Medical Center, California State University, the American Red Cross, the Orange County Clinical Laboratory Management Association, and the California Welfare Fraud Investigators Association. Dr. Taddie has also been an invited speaker and educator for the Department of Child Support Services in over 40 California Counties, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Imperial counties. He has provided continuing education on DNA testing to numerous local legal organizations, including the Beverly Hills Bar Association, the South Bay Bar Association, the West Orange County Bar Association, the Orange County Paralegal Association, and Legal Secretaries Incorporated. Dr. Taddie is approved by the State Bar of California as a provider of education for California Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credit, and he offers free MCLE education on DNA testing to attorneys in both the public and private sector.
